As a Cornish coastal business, the ocean is central to our everyday life which is why we proudly support Surfers Against Sewage as members of their Ocean Network. This year, we’re going further by donating 15% of sales from our new Christmas card range to SAS via Work for Good to help protect and restore the UK’s waters.
Why we support cleaner ocean activism
When we launched Moon Phase Studios in 2020, our focus was simple: build a business that customers would hopefully return to — and as a sleep-deprived mum of two tiny humans, attempt to look slightly less like a bedraggled rat from time to time.
That was genuinely the full extent of my priorities but now fast-forward five years. The kids now sleep through the night (miracles do happen) and MPS is no longer in pure survival mode. Now we have the time to consider; what do we actually care about as a business and how can we contribute to something bigger?

Why Surfers Against Sewage?
We’re a Cornish business and the beach isn’t just a nice backdrop for us, it’s where we swim, reset and remember why we work so hard in the first place. When the ocean is off-limits because of pollution and poor water management, it hits close to home — and poo-ey water makes us cross!
Surfers Against Sewage have been campaigning relentlessly since the 90s to clean up UK waters. You’d think their job would be done by now but it’s painfully clear we need voices like SAS louder than ever.
What is the Ocean Network?
The Ocean Network is SAS’s business membership community — a group of like-minded brands pledging to actively protect the UK’s oceans, rivers and coastline.
By joining, we’re not just making a donation. We’re committing, publicly and long-term, to supporting their mission to end sewage pollution, tackle plastic waste and restore the health of our blue spaces.
What we’re doing beyond donating
We’re continually reviewing how we operate as a business:

No plastic film wrapping on our hardback journals

We choose recycled card stock and paper tape.

Local small businesses collect and reuse our packaging waste.

We now have Cornish milk delivered in returnable glass bottles instead of supermarket plastic.
We’ve been Ocean Network members for the last two years and now we want to help support their cause even more.
So we’ve partnered with Work for Good, a platform that makes it simple and legally compliant for small businesses like us to donate through product sales. We’ve designed a Christmas card range with 15% of every sale going to Surfers Against Sewage, and we plan to expand this to more products over time.
