New Moon in Capricorn: How to work with the last new moon of the year
30th December PST 14:26 | EST 17:26 | GMT 22:26
The last new moon of 2024 holds a powerful space for us, occurring just before we step over the threshold of 2025. Offering us an opportunity to look to the future, this is a new moon for setting intentions. If you have the new Moon Phase Studios journal – this is also the first new moon in there, so grab a cuppa, and let’s get into it!
The grounded sign of Capricorn encourages us to plan and get practical. We’ve been working with Capricorn energy since we entered Capricorn season at the solstice, but now we can harness some of this earth energy combined with a new moon to set us up for the month and even the year ahead.
This is the time to start welcoming in fresh energy for a new chapter, but not without some initial reflection. Think of this new moon as an opportunity to start to integrate all the wisdom and insights you have gained over the last year, to help you step into 2025 with resilience and strength.
Ways to work with the new moon in Capricorn:
- Honour the element of earth: Slow down. Take a walk in nature, feel the ground beneath your feet as Mother Earth conserves energy over winter.
- Make time to reflect: Appreciate your journey this year, how far you have come and how much you have grown. Journal about it!
- Set your intentions: It’s time to start a fresh page – what do you want from the year ahead? What are your goals?
- Embrace your intuition: As we begin working towards a new vision, let yourself be guided by your intuition as much as the wisdom you have gained. Using an oracle card spread or enjoying some simple meditation can be a helpful way of inviting some insights in.
- Make a plan: It’s time to get strategic! Write down your goals, create a vision board or checklist of them, either for the lunar cycle ahead or for 2025. Doing this can help to build some solid, intentional foundations as you move forward.
Visualise achieving your goals…
New moon energy is potent for exploring and setting intentions. We can help this process by journalling, meditating or simply finding some quiet time to visualise achieving our goals. As this new moon is happening just before the new calendar year begins, this is a powerful time to work with what we’d like for the future. Here are some journal prompts for inspiration:

Journal prompts for the Capricorn new moon:
- Are there any routines I can bring in or change to help me feel more grounded?
- In what ways has my wisdom deepened this year and what have I learnt about myself?
- What are the goals I would like to work towards over the next lunar cycle or during 2025?
- What 3 actions can I take to start me on my journey towards my goals?
This is a powerful new moon, encouraging us to build some foundations for the year ahead and appreciate our ever-unfolding journey. Lean in friends!
With much love and lunar blessings for 2025,
