Aquarius Solar Eclipse: Change is coming, ready or not…

February 17th | PST 04:01 | EST 07:01 | GMT 12:01

A new lunar cycle is ready to greet us. Beginning with a solar (New Moon) eclipse in Aquarius, change is on the wind. If you enjoyed sharing some of the Leo light of the last Full Moon, the Snow Moon, and have been wondering how to welcome this next lunation, put your feet up, take five, and together we can welcome the energy in…

In this blog we’ll explore:

A solar eclipse occurs when the Earth, Moon and Sun all align, and from our vantage point on Earth (depending on where you are), the Moon blocks out some or all of the Sun’s light. Although many of us will not be able to see this eclipse (it’s not visible from the UK or the US), in the world of astrology it is still energetically powerful.

A solar eclipse can only take place at a new moon and so symbolically takes on the qualities of a New Moon, but somewhat turbocharged. We may feel that new beginnings, perspectives, or pathways are opening around a solar eclipse, but initially it can feel unsettling as we work out the best route to take. Just as the Sun’s light is obscured for a time and then returns, we can begin to move from the instability of feeling ‘in the dark’ to a place of clarity and illumination.

But what about a Solar Eclipse in Aquarius?

A solar eclipse in this cerebral, pragmatic air sign points us towards mindset shifts, doing things differently, and thinking outside the box. This is not the time for standing still: we are future-proofing, innovating new blueprints, and looking ahead with determination. As a sign that likes to shake things up and deliver fresh insight, a solar eclipse here suggests that change is coming, ready or not.

As Neptune and the ancient ruler of Aquarius, Saturn, moved into Aries before this eclipse, our initiation into the changes ahead has already begun. We may find that, in our personal lives and collectively, we are being moved forward, demolishing old structures along the way to make way for new beginnings. With Uranus, the modern ruler of Aquarius, in conversation at this eclipse, the energy may feel unsettling, yet we are reminded that liberation often follows a period of profound change.

New Information

Solar eclipses can sometimes shunt us back onto our life path by revealing new information. Because of this, I don’t tend to set intentions at a solar eclipse; I focus more on grounding and listening, but it’s personal preference. You do you! Our power is to be flexible and able to move with the shifts - and in true Aquarian fashion – we will each have our own unique way of navigating this. Here are some suggestions:

Ways to work with the Solar Eclipse in Aquarius:

  • Notice what is stirring: What is calling you? Are new starts beckoning? What needs to change?
  • Ground yourself but stay open to insights: As we navigate this changeable Aquarius energy, make room for grounding activities that help you slow down and clear your mind, ready for any lightbulb moments.
  • Try a new perspective: If the way you have been viewing a situation feels stagnant, take some time out. Try approaching it from a different angle.
  • Make room for inspiration: What lights you up, and how can you connect with it authentically? Seek out people, places, or moments that expand your mind and invite new possibilities.
  • Appreciate your community: Consider how you show up for your community and the wider world. Where might you feel inspired to offer your time, care, or support?

The extent to which you may feel eclipse energy will depend on your own planetary placements, but around the eclipse - you can try journaling, meditation, or simply taking some quiet time out.

If you’d like to explore journalling with this solar eclipse, here are some prompts to guide you:
